Build your blog like a business (with something to sell)

Blogging Tip of the Week:

How To Sell Your Travel Product or Service

I need to tell you about my friend Emily.

You may have heard me mention her before because she has a pretty inspirational story.

A few years ago, she realized the life she was supposed to want (the job, the house, the 40-year plan) didn’t actually make sense to her.

So she did something different. She started a travel blog.

Like most people, she quickly found out that turning a blog into full-time income takes time.

But she wasn’t willing to wait.

Emily’s strength was trip planning. Not just booking hotels, but planning unforgettable experiences.

So she offered that as a service to her (very minimal) blog readers.

She wasn’t a licensed travel agent, just someone who knew how to plan incredible trips. Her clients booked everything themselves. She made the planning part easy.

In under 3 months, she was making $10,000/month from this.

Not because of an ad network. Not because a post went viral. She had a service people actually wanted, and a simple way to sell it.

If you’ve ever thought about offering your own product or service, whether it’s trip planning, downloadable itineraries, travel consulting, or something else, I'm going to show you how to sell that (with and without paid ads).

👉 Option 1: Using Paid Ads to Start Making Sales Faster

If you’re willing to spend a little money, this strategy can work fast.

Like, grow-a-paying-audience-in-a-week fast.

Step 1: Start a Facebook PAGE for your niche

If you trip plan for Italy travelers, make your page about Italy travel.
Same thing for Hawaii, Japan, luxury beach destinations, etc.

Be specific.

Step 2: Run ads for Facebook page likes

This is where most people get stuck, but it’s actually so simple when you follow a process. Your goal is to grow your Facebook page likes so you can reach more people.

My friend Kristin Hanes created a course called The Facebook Traffic Goldmine that shows exactly how to do this (among many other strategies).

And you can get her course FREE when you enroll in Scale Your Travel Blog at the $1997 level (or higher), but this bonus is going away July 31st when we close enrollment.

Step 3: Start a Facebook GROUP for your destination or service

Again, be specific. Let’s say you plan custom Italy itineraries.

Create a group like “We Love Italy Travel".

Step 4: Turn on the feature that invites your Page Likes to join your Group

Yes, Facebook lets you do this automatically. Anyone who likes your Facebook page (which you're running ads for), will now be invited to join your group.

We’ve used this strategy to grow a brand-new group to 800 engaged members in less than a week (our graph below).

Step 5: Use the group to build your list & promote your service

Facebook groups are amazing for finding good clients.

Talk about your service often. Not in a spammy way. Just make sure people know it exists.

  • Add it to your group description
  • Make a post about it every couple weeks
  • Mention it when someone asks a related question
  • Create a pinned post that says: “Need help planning your trip? I offer custom itineraries and travel planning services - click here to learn more.”

👉 Option 2: Selling Your Product Without Spending on Ads (free, but takes longer)

If you don’t want to spend money, you can still do this.

It just takes more time and consistency.

Step 1: Build your blog and start writing content people can find

You can use:

  • SEO (yes, Google still works, especially for new bloggers)
  • Pinterest
  • Flipboard
  • Facebook pages & groups

If you want to learn how to do all of the things I mentioned above, we teach it all inside Scale Your Travel Blog.

Plus, you’ll get Kristin’s Facebook course and Stephanie Rytting’s Flipboard course for free if you join before July 31st.

After that, we’re closing enrollment until 2026.

Step 2: Show off your service on every blog post

Put it near the top. Don’t bury it.

Most people only read about 10% of your post, so make it count.

Pro tip: Don’t just write any blog post. Focus on the places or topics you sell services or products around.

Step 3: Add it to your website like it’s a billboard

Add a banner ad or a call out in the following places:

  • Sidebar
  • Homepage
  • About page
  • Pop-up
  • Footer

Don’t be shy. If someone lands on your blog, you want to make it extremely obvious that you offer it.

Step 4: Collect emails + promote through email

This is where it all comes together. And this is going to sustain your business long-term.

Even if someone doesn’t book right away, they might in 2–3 weeks once they’ve seen a few helpful tips from you.

That’s the power of email.
