If there’s one thing we can probably all agree on… It’s that there’s never enough time to do everything we want to do with our blogs. Am I right? The ideas are there, the motivation is there, but somehow the hours disappear. Well.. Turns out, I didn’t need more hours. I just needed a better system for using the content I already had. It’s called a content flywheel, and it’s one of the best systems you could create for your blog or business. Today, I’m sharing how my content flywheel turned one email into multiple pieces of content, and has since earned me over $1,700. Step 1: Start With One Piece of Content It started with an email I wrote on November 14, 2024. You can see it here: Easy Countries to Move To I had just seen a trending story on Google Discover about moving abroad, and as someone who’s lived/traveled abroad off and on for 9+ years, it instantly sparked ideas. So I wrote my own spin on it with my own info. I shared up-to-date visa info, tips for teaching English abroad, digital nomad programs, and the countries we’ve lived in or seriously considered moving to. Total time to create the email: 2 hours It probably could have taken less time, but I wanted it to be really helpful and rooted in actual experience. Step 2: Turn It Into a Blog Post On January 11, 2025, I was looking for fresh content to publish on my blog, so I turned that email into a post: Easy Countries to Move To I quite literally copied and pasted it onto my site. So simple. Total time to create the blog post: 15 minutes to format the post and images. Step 3: Turn That Blog Post Into More Content Once the post was live, I reused it again to fuel content for:
Total time to create: Creating these pieces of content took me about 20-30 minutes. Again SO simple. So.. What Happened Next? Google Discover picked it up. Other news outlets started linking to it. And it resurfaced a few more times over the next four months.
This post was NOT crafted with affiliate income in mind, but when enough people read a post, some affiliate earnings are bound to trickle in. Pro Tip: Once you spot a post that’s pulling in traffic, ask yourself, "What can I offer here that helps readers and makes money?" I’m currently testing that by partnering with a Scale Your Travel Blog student and friend to offer moving-abroad coaching and services. The Breakdown Here’s the time breakdown:
Not bad for a single piece of content. And that blog post still has long-term potential. Most bloggers publish once and move on. But if you take one great piece of content and strategically reuse it in different formats, it becomes a content flywheel. Even better... you don’t have to be on social media 24/7 to make it work. 🚨 Reminder: Scale Your Travel Blog Closes July 31st If you want to learn even more about how to make money blogging, from the very beginning stages to deep-dive monetization strategies, don’t miss your chance to join us inside Scale Your Travel Blog before we close the doors to new enrollment on July 31st.
