How One Blogger Turned a Quirky Day Trip Into a Paid Service

I used to say that bloggers were some of the most creative professionals in the world.

And while it’s true that we’re scrappy and tenacious, I’ve noticed many bloggers have gotten comfortable sticking to the same three income streams: ads, affiliates, and sponsorships.

But the truth is, we have the entire world at our fingertips.

We can create products, services, or experiences in any shape or form, and as long as people want it, it can become a source of income.

That’s exactly what Scale Your Travel Blog student, Tabitha from Travel Compositions did.

She took what started as a personal adventure and transformed it into a unique service that travelers now happily pay for.

I interviewed her about how she came up with the idea, the simple process she uses to deliver it, and most importantly, how you can take the same approach and create a service in your own niche and blog.

From Blog Post to Paid Itinerary

Sometimes the quirkiest adventures make the best blog posts.

For Tabitha, that adventure was a day spent chasing down giant wooden troll statues scattered around Seattle.

Since there are 5 of these trolls, most people might plan to see one or two of them. Tabitha went for all five in a single day. That meant ferry schedules, traffic, and racing the sunset.

But she pulled it off!

Of course, she turned the adventure into a blog post. But it wasn’t just the usual kind where you toss in a couple affiliate links, cross your fingers for high ad revenue, and call it done.

Inside Scale Your Travel Blog, we talk a lot about “double, triple, even quadruple dipping” or creating funnels out of your blog posts.

In other words, asking yourself: how can I turn this post into more than one win, whether that’s extra income opportunities, new email subscribers, or even a service I can sell, without sacrificing the quality or reader experience?

So, at the end of her blog post, she casually added a line that said,

“If you’d like me to create a custom plan for you, I can help you see all five trolls in one day.”

That one simple sentence turned her quirky challenge into a brand-new income stream because readers actually take her up on it.

And I get it.. trying something like this can feel a little intimidating. It seems like it should be complicated.

But in reality, it was just one clear offer tucked into a blog post she was already writing.

💡 Laura’s Tip: Don’t overlook your niche adventures. That one quirky challenge, hike, or day trip you figured out could be exactly what readers are willing to pay for help with.

We just had another SYTB student launch a course around a multi-day hiking route and it is selling really well!

How She Actually Sells Her Offers
(and Why It Works)

What I love about Tabitha’s story is how simple her sales system really is.

As I mentioned, this is not rocket science. But it does require some guts to put yourself out there*.

Here’s how she does it:

  • She writes a detailed post about a specific topic, destination, adventure, etc.
  • Inside that post, she adds a quick note offering her custom itinerary services. The key is that her offer connects directly to what the reader is already looking for in that post.
  • She also lists it in her site menu under “Travel Consultations,” so it’s easy to find (you can see her website here!)

And that’s it.

Again, just a helpful blog post with a clear, relevant offer.

Now the best part about this is you can scale it.

Sure, you will likely start out with just one blog post and one offer, but if just one or two people take you up on it, you’ve proven the concept.

Then, you can repeat this over and over again.

Add a small, clear offer to each of your blog posts and suddenly you’ve got dozens of little “entry points” across your site leading readers to work with you.

And this doesn’t have to be a custom service.

I know a lot of bloggers don’t have the time (or desire) to take on consulting or 1:1 trip planning, and that’s totally fine.

You can do the same thing with a low-cost PDF guide, a small course, or any resource that makes your reader’s life easier.

One offer + lots of posts = a steady stream of customers.

*Laura’s Note: Anytime I get nervous about putting myself out there, I remind myself of this.. we’re literally spinning on a giant rock in the middle of space. The worst that can happen is someone laughs at you. And honestly.. let them! Because if your idea works, you’ll be the one laughing all the way to the bank (and they will stay miserable 😜).

Bonus Tip

If you’re ready to try this for yourself, start with the blog posts that are already bringing you the most traffic.

Even if it’s not thousands of people a day, you still have an audience, and even a small audience is better than no audience.

Add a small offer to your top-performing posts first, then work your way backward through the rest of your content.

Over time, you’ll have dozens of posts pointing people toward your service, guide, or course, and that’s when the volume really starts to work.

💡 Travel Blogging Tip of the Week 💡 Blogging In 2026.. What Should We Expect? I can’t tell you how many people I’ve talked to who still haven’t started their blog because they’re telling themselves, "It's 2026.. it's too late to start blogging." They were saying the same thing in 2022. And 2019. And 2016. Most of the time, it’s not a lack of desire. They want a life that feels more aligned with their goals and dreams, not one where they’re going to a job they only *kind of* like every day....

September dipped a little, but nothing alarming. Then Q4 hit. And my traffic absolutely tanked. Logically, I should have known that...
